For the Province of Overijssel we made a model in 3D and Virtual Reality of the Scheeresluis in Kampen. This makes maintenance of the lock easier, more efficient and safer.

Scheeresluis in 3D and VR

For the Province of Overijssel we developed a 3D information model and a VR model of the Scheeresluis in Kampen together with Tauw. This has ensured that the Roads and Channels unit of the province can carry out the management and maintenance work easier, more efficient and safer.

Data in 3D-model

A drone and laser scanners were used to map the lock, which was then processed into a point cloud. Together with existing data from different locations, an information model was created in Arcgis Pro. From safety requirements to the maintenance history of the lock gate: all necessary information is clearly displayed in the 3D information model. This model has served as the basis for the Virtual Reality model.

Virtual into the lock

Maintenance engineers can virtually visit the lock and access the information. They can visually see what the lock looks like, what its dimensions are and what objects it consists of. This increases safety when carrying out maintenance work on the lock because employees have already checked the lock once before they actually enter it.

From basic 3D model to XR

The project also shows that from a basic 3D model it is easy to work towards other forms of XR technology. The province uses a VR model but with Augmented & Mixed Reality it would for example be possible to visualize safety instructions or maintenance work step by step in the physical lock.
