A view on Extended Reality in 2022
Extended reality (XR) is the next step for human-machine interaction. The technology makes it possible to bring the digital and physical worlds together. XR is the umbrella term for virtual, augmented and mixed reality and other immersive technologies. The technology of extended reality understands both the physical and virtual environments and is able to bring elements together. This ensures that the right information is displayed in the right place in the environment. XR provides a life-like experience.

The potential of XR for B2B companies
Steedshonor business applications. The trend in adoption is shifting from B2C to B2B. From virtual reality games to onboarding new employees with virtual reality. XR is making its mark in the business market. According to XR-insight rapport shows that XR is quickly and strongly establishing itself in supporting enterprises, but is still struggling to gain a foothold for consumers. 65% of AR and VR companies surveyed are working on industrial applications, compared to the 37% focusing on consumers. Ultimately, the benefits of successfully deploying XR solutions are real and demonstrable. 93% of business users said VR had a positive impact on their business. 88.4% said the same about business applications of AR and MR.
yet most industrial companies are not yet ready for the future and technological developments, a Rabobank survey shows. In a eerder blog we described why the manufacturing industry needs to innovate right now. Extended reality plays a key role in the solution for the challenges that the sector faces. For example, there is a shortage of knowledge and capacity due to the shortage on the labor market or specialists have to be flown in for breakdowns. By investing in these smart technologies, companies in the manufacturing industry ensure that they are future-proof.

Extended reality in the future
IIn the future, extended reality will play an important role in human-machine interaction. XR applications will become even more user-friendly and affordable in the future. As XR becomes more sophisticated and the number of applications expands, the technology will be used in more industries. As described in a report by MarketsandMarkets™ (2021) the extended reality market will grow from $33 billion in 2021 to $125 billion in 2026.
This expected increase is based on a number of factors. First, the increasing use of XR in education and industrial training. Also, the demand for XR applications in the automotive industry has been growing for several years, and is expected to skyrocket over the next 5 years. Perhaps the most important factor is the level of acceptance. Extended reality is playing an increasingly important role in the entire industrial cycle of a company. Earlier we described in a blog why XR is at the heart of the Industrial Life Cycle.

How we make XR accessible to businesses
We strive to make XR solutions accessible to both large companies and SMEs. Total Reality is developing the Extended Reality Platform. The platform makes it possible for every high tech (SME) company to automate and digitize processes within the industrial cycle. The platform can be used in all phases from product design to sales, from training and education to maintenance and support.
Within the platform, the 3D model is central. This can be the 3D model of a total machine or the engine of a car. With our platform we give companies the opportunity to convert a model, regardless of file format, fully automated into 3D models that can be visualized with XR on any device. Think of the Microsoft Hololens or a tablet. The platform is device independent. Mandatory purchase of equipment is not necessary so that the entry costs are low. In this way we also want to make the XR solutions accessible for SME organizations.
