The construction, civil and engineering sectors are making increasing use of new techniques such as BIM couplings. In cooperation with a number of partners Total Reality has linked Virtual- and Augmented Reality techniques to CAD/CAM software, such as Autodesk Revit, Inventor, AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

3D Design in focus

With Virtual Reality it becomes increasingly easy to visualize real-time construction and engineering concepts early in the process. This ensures that all parties involved can agree more quickly on the design and other topics. When a design is made in a program like Revit, it can be difficult for the customer to actually visualize it on site in Augmented Reality. With the use of VR & AR techniques, the entire scenario with the realized building can be presented virtually. In this way all parties can see early in the process what the end result will be, discuss it and fine-tune elements. If necessary, changes that are applied virtually can be included in the original file.

Mixed Reality in construction & engineering

Mixed Reality is very suitable for use in the construction industry. With Mixed Reality you can ensure that virtule objects are visualized at fixed positions in the real world. We have developed an MR-app for Emsflower, where employees can easily see where to place a shelf in a packaging cart. Normally, the employees have to count all the holes where the shelf has to be positioned. Using Mixed Reality, the virtual shelf is already placed in the packaging trolley so that employees no longer have to count. In construction, this can be used during masonry, for example. Masons can see exactly which brick to place where. This speeds up the process considerably, which also reduces costs.

Sales solution in construction & engineering

Augmented Reality allows customers to place virtual buildings in the real world. In this way, there is no need to recreate a virtual world as is the case with VR, only the building itself. The advantage of Augmented Reality is that all you really need is a smartphone. A case study of TOP Total shows how Augmented Reality can be used in the construction world. TOP Totaal builds customised chalets and holiday homes. With the AR-app customers can place the houses on a plot or view them in 3D.
