Virtual onboarding
In the oil industry, XR-simulations, e.g. of drilling rigs, are very useful for training in case of an emergency. Even before the employees go to the construction site at sea, they can practice on the mainland with what they will find. In this way, employees can start work immediately and work safely. This saves costs and shortens the often long lasting start-up period of plants and/or personnel changes.
Gaining experience without risks
We also often apply XR-simulations within the chemical industry. Working in a lab can be dangerous when employees have to be trained. With-XR simulations, these employees can start practicing well in advance. When they actually work in the lab, the chance of accidents is reduced by the experience gained.
Remote support
A Mixed Reality headset can also be useful on a drilling rig. Because a drilling platform is often very far away, it can be difficult for mechanics and technicians to repair it on site. With an MR headset, these technicians can remotely assist people that are at the location with the maintenance and repair. The mechanics can observe from a distance with their colleagues at the drilling rig, visualize instructions in their field of vision and thereby tell them exactly which actions they need to perform.
